I don't agree with some of this. If you're trying to get sober, don't go to bars. Being around drunks is annoying and you have nothing to gain there. I've been sober 16 years and I don't hang around bars or people who drink. Find a new life away from alcohol. I've known people who said they were fine with being on the bar pool team and they had no desire to drink. Eventually, they drank again.

1 year sober this week. Best thing I've ever done

I just cold turkey at 22 after destroying relationships and friendships. And using it to cope with my mental health. I suffer from extreme trauma from childhood. PTSD borderline personality disorder generalized anxiety disorder and major depression. It was something to cope with the pain. Now 2 and half years sober, I still smoke but whenever I go to pick up a pack of smokes I look at the back room with all the 40s I use to drink daily. My family comes from a long generation of alcoholics. But I just look away from it and remind myself that that road isn’t somewhere I want to revisit. Thank god I don’t use it to cope anymore and that I found better ways to cope with the mental pain. BPD is constant emotional pain and people like myself do anything and everything to feel something to help us and to feel like ourselves. We NEVER FEEL COMFORTABLE IN OUR SKIN. No matter what. It’s hard to understand or explain to people why we act the way we act and why we do what we do. I’ll never go back to drinking. Now 24 I look at a bottle and I immediately have PTSD over the problems I caused from that toxic poison. Now I’m on the road to peace, to lay my past demons to rest so they’ll stop haunting me with my regrets and mistakes. It’ll stay with you but it’s the steps you take to overcome it. It’s not as easy as saying hey I’m gonna go ahead and stop no relapsed a lot saying I’ll never go back, I’m not perfect. But that poison, It’s not worth it. I’m hoping anyone trying to break the cycle or getting sober, you will feel so much better as you get over the withdrawals. Take care of yourself. ❤️🤘🏼

I quit out of sheer vanity. I hated my pot belly and knew that the only way to lose it was by totally quitting the booze. Cutting back on eating did zero when I was drinking. Now my belly is back to the one Brad Pitt had in Thelma and Louise. And sheer vanity will keep the booze away!

I tried giving up alcohol and did it for months, or so i thought..alcohol is in so many medicines and fermented foods...hot cross buns has alcohol in, if you each a few of them then your over thr driving limit, people actually got arrested in my country. So i realised i actually never gave up alcohol for 9 months...but i drink responsibly now, 3 drinks a month, if that.

I live alone, I have always lived alone since I left my parents' home when I was 23. In the last 8yrs,I have been hooked up to serious alcohol drinking not cos I am stressed but cos I got influenced by friends and colleagues which left me buying a lot of alcohol to keep in my house. I wish someone told me that it raises your blood pressure and heart beats. In my mother tongue, it say everybody in this world must learn what is expected of them via their own book. I learned it the hard way, after a wkd of wine, beer, and whisky drinking, my blood pressure got raised from 140/88 to 200/110. Doctors lowered it, did cit scan but till today, I still have problems with both my heart and BP.

I love drinking as it isn't a problem for me. Im a multimillionare, an athlete, extremely good looking in my fifties. I have a great social life. Don't be a quitter.

Alchohol suppressed my appetite, but that was my only source of calories for a long time. When I quit the drink, I fasted 3 days & went carnivore, I lost 40 lbs in a month and a half. Another serious side effect is swelling limbs!

I drank every other weekend for 20 years, socially. My mum died and I spiraled downwards for 3 years. Blackouts became very regular, after a physical assault, I got a big wake up call. Haven't touched alcohol in 3 years. Best decision I made.

I like the taste of beer but wanted to cut out the alcohol aspect because it’s terrible for you. That’s why I drink NA beer.

I'm trying to get sober. My husband and I usually drink together. He's my best friend and he doesn't see that we have a problem. We used to drink 8 to 15 bottles of wine a week. We are down to usually 8 bottles these weeks. I really want to stop, but I have no support. And my husband doesn't want to stop.

For a true alcoholic it hurts to quit and it's a horrible feeling so you feel you need it but trust me when I say it's better to deal with the pain to throw up to deal with heavy breathing . Go through the pain and quit for your health and your family for God

I know someone that is an alcoholic. He is often in denial that he is one. Has said on multiple occasions that he wants to quit, but hasn't been successful. Sometimes he's cool even when drinking and other times he lets his intrusive thoughts win and he becomes someone I hardly recognize. He's not violent, just often belligerent with his words. He's lodt more than he's gained as far as friends and family is concerned.

Good video. Some of those signs happened to me. I got to the point where I had a backup bottle in case i got low and couldn't get to the store. Also, I was excited about the evening time when it was okay to start drinking. I'm not as convinced about eating more with drinking... i always forced myself to eat something before i had a drink so I wouldn't get a hangover (as bad). No blackouts for me. I did increase my one drink a night to two. And went from skipping a day or two to drinking every day. When drinking became the high point of my day and my life, i knew it was time to change.
